KN95 vs N95, FFP2, P2, Korean 1st Calss and DS Face Masks

So what are the differences between a KN95 Face Mask, to a FFP2, N95, P2, Korea 1st Class and DS2? Let's start by explaining which countries use which standard.

N95 (NOISH 42CFR84) - UNITED STATES
This is the United States standard called NOISH, whichstands for 'National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health'. They operate under the CDC, which stands for 'Centers for Disease Control and Prevention'. You can get a N95 mask and a N99 mask. The numbers show the minimum effectiveness filtration in a percentage value, for example a N95 it filters at least 95% of airborne particles that are 0.3 microns or larger but is not resistant to oil.  If you wish to learn more detail about NOISH please click here.

FFP2 (EN 149:2001) - EUROPE
This is the European standard call FFP2, which stands for 'Filtering Face Piece Mask'. The number denotes the filtering level, for example 2 means it filters out at least 94% of airborne particles that are 0.3 microns or larger but is not resistant to oil. To learn more please click here.

KN95 (GB2626-2006) - CHINA
This is the Chinese standard called GB2626-2006. The mask must have a filter performance rate of 95% or higher for airborne particles that are 0.3 microns or larger but is not resistant to oil.

P2 (AS/NZ 1716:2012) - AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
This is the standard for Australia and New Zealand. Intended for use against both mechanically and thermally generated particulates. Has a medium absorption capacity filter. It filters out at least 94% of airborne particles that are 0.3 microns or larger but is not resistant to oil. To learn more please click here.

KOREA 1st CLASS (KMOEL-2017-64) - KOREA
This is the South Korean standard of certification. The standard levels of compliance are similar to those of the European Standard. It filters out at least 95% of airborne particles that are 0.3 microns or larger but is not resistant to oil.

DS (JMHLW-NOTIFICATION 214, 2018) - JAPAN
This is the Japanese standard of certification. The standard levels of compliance are similar to those of the European Standard. It filters out at least 95% of airborne particles that are 0.3 microns or larger but is not resistant to oil.

INDEPENDENT TEST RESULTS
As shown in the following summary table, respirators certified as meeting these standards can be expected to function very similarly to one another, based on the performance requirements stated in the standards and confirmed during conformity testing.

Based on this comparison, it is reasonable to consider China KN95, AS/NZ P2, Korea 1st Class, and Japan DS FFRs as “equivalent” to U.S. NIOSH N95 and European FFP2 respirators, for filtering non-oil-based particles such as those resulting from wildfires, PM 2.5 air pollution, volcanic eruptions etc.
